![]() ![]() The Wallet balance can can then be used to buy games, downloadable content, and in-game items. Physical cards are sold in amounts of $20, $30, $50, and $100, while digital cards can be worth $5, $10, $25, $50, and $100.Ī Steam card comes with an activation code, which can be used by the recipient to put the Steam card's value into their account's digital Steam Wallet. The only real difference between a physical and digital gift card is the amount of money they come in. Steam also offers digital gift cards, so the process can be done entirely online. A physical gift card is a lovely addition to a traditional birthday or Christmas card - nicer than handwriting an activation code at the bottom. She got scammed because she is very dumb. While Steam is an online-only service, it still offers gift cards which can be bought in many stores. Man sorry to hear about this happening to your sis. So right now it's just waiting on 7/11 if there will be some kind of assistance in this case. ![]() I wont have my hands on them until Wednesday. I am also in contact with Steam support(I have an old account) and need further information about the cards themselves. ![]() I did contact 7/11 Canada HQ as I posted on their FB page. For now I don't think she's on the hook with the bank but I don't want to assume anything at this point, they could just send her a bill or collections eventually. They actually went to the bank on Friday to explain the situation and close the account. Yeah, I mentioned to my sisters social worker about getting the PG&T involved for future transactions. Also try registering an online Steam acc and contacting them via it. If they refuse, file a complaint about Valve Software at WA BBB and about 7/11 at CA BBB if the cards are still unused. Also contact and/or 7/11 Canadian HQ asking for a refund due to the circumstances. One restriction is easy to set: " no cash advance or transfers for cheques until cleared". Discuss possible account restrictions with her bank given the situation. Guardianship would make easier to avoid such issues in the future. TLDR: Mentally ill sister gets scammed into buying $1000 worth of Steam cards with a fraudulent cheque. What the hell do I do now? Going to Steams web page there doesn't seem to be any phone contacts. So now she's stuck with $1000 worth of Steam cards. She goes back to 7 Eleven and they refuse to refund her money. Don't even know if the police will follow up. Call her bank and call the police.īank says they can't do shit. I instruct my sister to NOT send the codes. And luckily my sister calls me about the situation as the scammer was pressuring her to send the codes. My sister finally caught on but proceeded to purchase the cards.Ī day later the $1900 cheque bounces. While purchasing the cards at 7 eleven, the clerk tells my sister to be careful as there are scams going on with these cards. The scammer tells her to go to a local 7 eleven. The Next day the scammer E-Transfers her back $750 and instructs my sister to purchase $1000 worth of Steam cards. The bank did not put a hold on the cheque and she was able to E-Transfer that amount. The scammer told my sister to deposit the cheque and just send her back $1500 via E-Transfer (Massive red flag). The scammer Purolatored her a cheque for $1900. They said they wanted to hire her but needed a favour first. Someone had contacted her and did a phone interview (1st red flag). My sister, who suffers from mental illness and who is highly vulnerable (see gullible) put out an add on Kijiji (think Canadian Craigslist) offering babysitting services. I'm hoping to get some information or even some ideas on this huge issue that I'm dealing with. ![]()
